SSC – R conducts 1st Academic Week: Gearing One’s Bailiwick
GO BASTE: Gearing One’s Bailiwick thru Academic Supported and Tacit Education is this year’s theme for the first Academic Week Celebration on November 21 – 25, 2011 at San Sebastian College – Recoletos Canlubang Campus. As it is inline with the institutional objective of preparing academically and technologically competent graduates with knowledge and skills that will empower them to face the challenges of time, the weeklong activity provides the students with fun-filled learning experiences beyond the four walls of the classroom. The program opened with the remarks by the College dean, Dr. Amado Magsino followed by the orientation by the Arts and Sciences Coordinator, Jan Michael de Asis.
Competitions were conducted in the different Gen Ed courses such as:
• Math and Science Quiz bee elimination – 9 participants from each cluster where the top three will represent their cluster in the finals.
• Spelling and Filipino Translation Quiz bee and History, Rizal and Religious Education Eliminations – All students who have 9:00 – 10:30 classes took a qualifying examination and the topnotcher will represent that class in the finals.
• Interpretative Dance – Students were asked to interpret Michael Jackson’s Man in the Mirror in order to test their Bodily – Kinaesthetic Intelligence.
• Artwork Painting Competition – Creative students were asked to express their talents through painting with the theme: “Sebastinian’s Commitment To Excel Towards a Better Future.”
• Song Making Competition – Student composers were challenged to create a song with a strong connection with this year’s academic week celebration.
The culminating day commences on November 25, 2011 with the Eucharistic Celebration by the school chaplain and newly appointed Coordinator for Student Welfare, Rev. Fr. Abraham Latoza, OAR followed by the Finals in the respective quiz bees done simultaneously. Students also listened to three paper presentations of selected students who have shown exemplary outputs in their Writing in a Discipline (EN 102) and Tungo sa Pananaliksik (FL 102). Topics include Social Networking Sites presented by Joanne Macheca and Nanette Dimalaluan, SSC – R Canlubang Enrolment by Ruth Castilla, Kathlyn Cahinhinan and Miyuki Robediso and “Pag – aaral tungkol sa mga gawaing bawal na pilit ginagawa ng mga tao” by Mary Joyce Caguiat and Joanne Macheca.

The School director himself, Rev. Fr. Leander Barrot, OAR, gave his closing remarks with high regards on the talents we have which prompted a possible recording of the output in the song making competition. Indeed, it was a productive academic week for San Sebastian College – Recoletos Canlubang. Kudos to the persons behind this activity specially to the program emcees which include Maryland Almazan, Vince Zoren Estanislao, Abigail Maglapay and Frencheska Javier together with the untiring help and assistance by the Supreme Student Council and the guidance of the Arts and Sciences Cluster Faculty.
