PRIVACY SAFETY, SECURITY AND TRUST ONLINE

SSC-R Manila participates in the Symposium on Data Privacy at DLSU Manila

(From L-R, Ms. Marricris Pascual from Data Privacy Office of SSC-R Manila; Mr. Richmond Alimarcan, Pricilla Ramos, Micaella Bersano, Vaughn Martinez, Katie Berco SSC-R Manila’s Student Leaders and Ms. Ellaine Joy Palencia from Student Affairs Office) Seven (7) participants from San Sebastian College Recoletos, Manila joined the Luzon-wide seminar entitled “Privacy, Safety, Security and Trust Online” (PSST) held last December 07, 2018 at Teresa Yuchengco Auditorium, De la Salle University Manila. The National Privacy Commission (NPC) Symposium spearheaded the event through a symposium.

The participants were: Ms. Marricris Pascual from the Data Privacy Office; Ms. Ellaine Joy Palencia of Student Affairs Office; and the student leaders from different organizations namely: Mr. Richmond Alimarcan, 4th Yr. Psychology Student and SSG External VP; Pricilla Ramos, 4th year BS. Comp. Sci., ACOSCI President; Micaella Bersano, BSIT and SITE 1st Year Representative; Vaughn Martinez, BS Pol. Sci., and the Parliament Internal V-President; and Katie Berco, AB. Pol. Sci. and PSS 1st Year Representative.

The event started with a registration followed by the program proper. Brother Bernard Oca, FSC, Chancellor of De La Salle University, led the opening prayer followed by the brief orientation on the facilities of the school (fire exit location/ emergency exit) by DLSU Safety Officer.

The invited speakers were from the different prestigious organizations that discussed the realities of safety and Privacy Online. Mr. Joey Regala, President of Information Security Officer Group (ISOG) discussed the Protecting your Data Crumbs followed by Mr. Raymond Nuñez, Professor at Electrical and Electronic Engineering Institute of the University of the Philippines who presented the topic on Creating a Secure Online Home. Mr. William Yu, from Internet Society of the Philippines presented the Trust by Design: IoT, Privacy and Information Security while Ms. Genalyn Macalinao, A Policy Lead of Cyber Security Bureau from the Department of Information and Communication Technology provided a brief information on Securing of Cyberspace. The topic on Maintaining Security in your Social Media Accounts was discussed by Mr. Christopher Kuzhuppilly, a Public Policy Manager of Facebook Philippines. He introduced how to use of the Privacy Policy on Facebook. Mr. Yves Gonzales, who is the Head of the Public Policy Government Relations of Google Philippines shared about the Google ‘s Privacy Principles and Security Tools. From the Deputy Commissioner of National Privacy Commission (NPC), Atty. Ivy Patdu, presented a brief information and overview on Responsible Digital Citizenship and Principle on Privacy Safety, Security and Trust Online and Atty. Leandro Aguirre, shared his insights on Data Subject Rights.

The NPC encourages the school sectors to answer the consolidated questions and other queries from different schools. The event ended with an open forum, the introduction of the new application regarding the NPC’s Privacy Watch, and the awarding of certificates to the invited speakers.
