The nine (9) Recoletos schools in the Philippines will gather on September 2-3, for the closing ceremony of the International Year of Educational Apostolate (IYEA) at the San Sebastian College-Recoletos, Manila campus.
In 2010, during the 54th General Chapter of the Order of the Augustinian Recollects in Granada Spain, the Prior General Reverend Father Miguel Miro, OAR and his Council declared August 28, 2015 to August 28, 2016 as the “Year of the Augustinian Recollect Educational Apostolate”. One of the stipulated ordinances in that chapter:
“The goal should be to confirm the commitment of the Order to a task that is vast, complex and urgent.
Also, the yearlong celebration should be in commemoration of the 75th anniverssary of the Order’s first schools: the Colegio de Santo Tomas de Villanueva in San Carlos City, Negros Occidental; the Colegio Fray Luis de Leon in Caracas, Venezuela; and Colegio de San Sebastian (now, San Sebastian College-Recoletos, Manila.
Last year, all Recoletos schools launched respectively in their campuses the IYEA with the unveiling of the Recoletos Graduate Attributes (RGA) and the Educational Plan of the order (EPO).
This event will be participated by the religious and lay administrators, faculty members, staff, and student representatives from the Recoletos schools: Univeristy of San Jose Recoletos- Cebu City; University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos, Bacolod City; San Pedro Academy, Caidiocan, Valencia, Negros Oriental; Colegio de Santo Tomas-Recoletos, San Carlos City, Negros Occidental; Colegio San Nicolas de Tolentino-Recoletos, Talisay City, Negros Occidental; San Pedro Academy-Recoletos, Valencia, Negros Oriental; and the host schools: San Sebastian College-Recoletos de Cavite; San Sebastian College-Recoletos, Canlubang; and San Sebastian College-Recoletos, Manila.
The two-day celebration will consist of activities such as symposia on: (1) History of the Recoletos Education in the Philippines and its contribution to the Philippine Society, (2) Testimonial Talk from an Alumnus, (3) Role of Recoletos Educational Apostolate in the Philippines: Challenges & Directions; and fun-filled activities like Pistang Recoleto, Palarong Pinoy, and Cultural Show Presentation.
The theme of the International Year of Educational Apostolate (IYEA) is: “Caritas et Scientia/ Love and Knowledge: Educating the mind and the heart”.
