Dr. Rodrigo F. Ponce Jr., SSC-R Manila’s Data Privacy Officer and Ms. Marricris Pascual, Data Privacy Staff attended the Data Privacy Stakeholder’s Assembly and Privacy Wall Launch held last November 19, 2018 at SMX Aura Convention Center, Taguig City.
The event was organized by the National Privacy Commission (NPC) with the following objectives:
To serve as a gathering for the Data Privacy Council in order to review and evaluate the work done in 2018 towards upholding the privacy rights of the data subjects;
To assist the different sectors in their journey towards maximum accountability and compliance; and To present the NPC’s 2019 plans.
The event started with a Prayer and National Anthem. It was followed by the presentation of the NPC’s 2018 successful events and activities by Atty. Ivy P. Patdu, Deputy Privacy Commissioner. The Hotel, Pharmaceutical, Health and Hospital, Transportation and Logistics and Academe Sectors presented their updates, goals, ongoing and successful Data Privacy programs, projects and activities.
For the Academe Sector, the working group members prepared for the Privacy, Safety, Security and Trust Online (PSST) event with DLSU as host on December 7, 2018.
After the presentation of five (5) Sectors, the NPC launched the Privacy Wall to create a digital community for Data Protection Officers and as the official tool for disseminating information, documents and other discussions related to Data Privacy, aiming to empower DPO’s through technology. The draft on Rules on Mediation was also presented by the NPC.
The assembly ended with the presentation and inspirational message of Atty. Richmond E. Liboro, Privacy Commissioner and Chairman who shared his insights and presented the list of future plans and goals of the National Privacy Commission.
