Sebastinian Artistry

As an academic institution, SSC-R is not only committed to academic excellence but also excellence in culture and the arts. Thus, the Center for Culture and the Arts has conducted several activities to set the artistic enviroment in the Sebastinian Community:
Wonderland, held last November 22-25, 2016, an exhibit that explores an array of spaces transformed by the mind, body and soul. Each wonderland is a pinhole to the artist’s perspective of how things around us change. It moves everyone to reflect on these whimsically transformed moments as pieces that simultaneously mirror reality and fantasy. This is an opportunity for the audience to look at things from a different perspective and more importantly, it allows everyone to feel, to wonder, and to be transported to worlds they havenever seen before. Featured artists were Sebastinian students and employees: Vince Barrientos, Fatima Villarosa, Sam Magpantay, Lyka Lacuña, and Kyle Solar.

The Sebastinian Arts Society features their new recruits through their Showcase of Talents. This year’s theme is “Indie”, featuring Indie music here in the Philippines, held last November 24, at the Seminar Room.

4th Recollects Dance Syndrome, an inter high-school dance competition held last January 17, 2017, Bulwagang Diego Cera, in celebration of SSC-R Manila’s 76th Foundation. This event was spearheaded by the Center for Culture and the Arts through the San Sebastian Recollect Dance Troupe (SSRDT).

Natke-Natken Art Exhibition an art exhibition in celebration of February as Arts month, held last February 17-22, SSC-R Manila Seminar Room and Little Theater. The “Natke-Natken” was derived from the Kankanaey language which means unique or different. The exhibit revolved around this theme, thus it featured artworks that celebrate diversity and uniqueness.

“Somwehere in Neverland”, a love concert by the Sebastinian Arts Society, February 24, 2017. The SAS’ concert featured different love songs (covers and original compositions) interpreted differently using acoustic music. This was staged in an arena type performance space (only the Bulwagang Diego Cera stage was used as performance space and audience area) giving the concert an intimate feel.

A slam poetry was held last February 17 entitled Hugot Monologues (Partnership with the Alliance), SSC-R Manila Seminar Room and Little Theater, and A Slam Poetry competition, last February 27 entitled Tulaan sa Recto (Collaboration with CAS), College Arcade.

Finally, the San Sebastian Recollect Dance Troupe concert on the other hand presented a different take on hiphop as theater was incorporated in each of the choreographies last March 9, 2017, Bulwagang Diego Cera. Entitled, “Persona” it featured different choreographies tackling different issues faced by man. Dancers, and dance enthusiasts from all over the Metro attended the concert. Different dance troupes also graced the concert as guest performers.
