San Sebastian College- Recoletos Granted Autonomous Status by CHED

San Sebastian College-Recoletos is granted Autonomous Status by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED). The autonomous status is given to deserving higher education institutions (HEIs) with high level of institutional quality and program excellence.

The awarding ceremony was held last May 18 at the CHED Auditorium, 2nd floor, HEDC bldg., CP Garcia Ave., UP Campus Diliman, Quezon City. The awarding ceremony was attended by Rev. Fr. Nemesio D. Tolentin, OAR (College President), Rev. Fr. Ferdinand Fornilos, OAR (Vice President for Academic Affairs), Rev. Fr. Emeterio Buñao, OAR (Vice President for Administration) and Mr. Arnel Cruz (Registrar).

Among the benefits and responsibilities of having granted the autonomous status as stipulated in the CHED memorandum order no. 19 are as follow:

  • Exemption from the issuance of Special Order (S.O.) for graduates;
  • Exemption from regular monitoring and evaluation by CHED;
  • Priority in the grant of subsidies and other financial incentives/ assistance from the CHED whenever funds are available;
  • Authority to grant an honorary degree to deserving individuals in line with the provisions of the existing CHED issuance on conferment of honorary degrees;
  • Privilege to determine and prescribe curricular programs to achieve global competence;
  • Privilege to offer new course(s)/program(s) in the undergraduate and/or graduate levels, in their areas of expertise, without securing permit/ authority from CHED;
  • Privilege to offer extension classes to expand access to higher education;
  • Privilege to establish linkages with recognized foreign higher education institutions;
  • At the instance of CHED, the PHEIs may be authorized to offer program(s) via the alternative mode such as distance education, ETEEAP, or transnational education;
  • Privilege to increase tuition fees without securing permit from CHED.

The Autonomous status is valid from May 9, 2017 to May 31, 2019.
